The Japanese Chin is a small, well balanced, lively, aristocratic toy dog with a distinctive Oriental expression. It is light and stylish in action. The plumed tail is carried over the back, curving to either side. The coat is silky, profuse, soft and straight.

Ideal size is 8 to 11 inches, with weight in proportion to height and body build. Good quality Japanese Chin generally do not weigh over 10 lbs.

Japanese Chin colors are black and white, red and white, or black and white with tan points, which are tan or red spots over each eye, inside the ears, on both cheeks, and at the under the tail if displaying black there. Symmetry of facial markings is preferable for show. The size, shape, placement or number of body markings is not of great importance. The white is to be clear of exessive ticking. Of course, NONE of this makes one bit of difference in a pet quality dog. HEALTH AND TEMPERAMENT SHOULD BE THE MAJOR CONCERN WHEN PURCHASING A PET QUALITY DOG.

The Japanese Chin is a sensitive and highly intelligent dog whose only purpose is to serve man as a companion. They are responsive and very affectionate with those they know and love, but can be quite reserved with strangers or in new situations.

Legitimate Japanese Chin breeders show their dogs, have necessary health testing done on their adult dogs before breeding them, offer a strong health guarantee on the puppies they sell, and are willing to answer questions and offer advice before and AFTER the sale of the puppy.

Use GREAT caution when deciding on a breeder. PLEASE, DO NOT purchase a puppy, of any breed, from a pet store or broker. Doing so only fosters puppy mills and large scale breeders.

Every puppy deserves a good home, and every buyer, whether buying pet or show quality, has the RIGHT to a healthy, happy, socialized, well-bred puppy. You, as a consumer, are entitled to the same rights when purchasing a puppy as when you are purchasing any product. However, puppies are NOT just products, they are living, breathing, precious little creatures who deserve the best life possible. Buy your puppy from a breeder who has devoted their time and energy to producing the best possible quality puppy for you.
